OfSted Report - Rated 'Good'
Toppesfield’s Pre-school, Little Chestnuts, has received a glowing ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted, filled with praise for the managers, staff and children at this flourishing setting.
The pre-school, which is popular with parents; some of whom travel from Halstead and Sible Hedingham, prides itself on the quality of teaching and learning, Ofsted Inspector, Patricia Champion states “Staff teach children to recognise and write their names and develop an understanding of words and letters. They also provide a broad range of activities to encourage them to speak and listen. This has a significantly positive impact on children's communication skills.”
Children who attend the pre-school are extremely happy, they enjoy their changing indoor environment and their well-equipped outdoor area. The Ofsted report identifies “All children, including those who receive funding, make good progress. Children are confident, self-assured and really enjoy learning. They demonstrate a strong desire to try new things and eagerly investigate the many experiences on offer. Older children's literacy and mathematical skills are developing well to support them in their next stage of learning and the eventual progression on to school”.

Where learning is child's play

Little Chestnut’s Pre-school is situated at the village hall in Toppesfield benefiting from a lovely large area for the children to play, learn and explore, both inside and out. Toppesfield is close to Ridgewell, Great Yeldham and the Hedinghams.

Run by a team of qualified and dedicated staff, every parent has a say in the running of the Pre-school through our Committee. We also have strong links with St Margaret’s School in Toppesfield, a wonderful small village school with big ambitions.

Open to children from aged 2 years to rising fives; we are in receipt of nursery education funding for two, three and four year olds and can offer double sessions to cover 9am-3/3:30pm school hours Tuesday to Thursday and morning sessions Monday to Friday. We also offer Breakfast club from 8am with a 'walking bus' to St Margaret's school.

Stay and play sessions are held every Friday morning 09:15-10:15, this is open to all children under five years (including children who do not regularly attend our session) and a great opportunity for toddlers to be introduced to pre-school. This is also £3 per family and for those who do not attend pre-school on Fridays.
